Spring 2011 Summit – “The Christ:  A Historical Perspective”

The 2010-2011 series of Theological Summits at Winebrenner Theological Seminary have focused on the theme of Christology, exploring a number of different areas surrounding the person and work of Jesus Christ.  On January 4, 2011, the Summit featured speakers giving a historical perspective about how practices and doctrines surrounding Jesus Christ developed over the centuries.  These sessions included:

  • Dr. John Nissley, Professor of Spiritual Formation and Pastoral Theology, who presented on the way in which the Desert Fathers understood and experienced Christ.
  • Dr. George Fry, Professor of Bible and Church History, who presented on how Christ was viewed during the Reformation.
  • A group exercise, where students enacted how they think Jesus would have responded in certain historical events.
  • Prof. Kathryn Helleman, Instructor in Systematic Theology and Christian Ethics, who presented on our perspectives of Christ and how they are expressed in various images.

In addition to these presentations, the Summit had worship experiences, led by Pastor Dave Welker of College First Church of God and several small group exercises.  The Theological Summit is held on the first Tuesday of each trimester, in early September, January, and May.  Those interested in attending may contact the Admissions Office (admissions@winebrenner.edu, 1-800-992-4987) for more information.

WTS Professor Emeritus to Present at Ohio State

Dr. James Resseguie, WTS Distinguished Professor of New Testament Emeritus, will be presenting a paper on "The King James Bible and Narrative" at the Ohio State University for the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. The conference is officially titled "The King James Bible and Its Cultural Afterlife" and is held May 5-7, 2011.

The conference information is available online at http://kingjamesbible.osu.edu. This promises to be an exciting conference with a strong slate of international scholars presenting. The importance of the King James Bible in the Church and its influence on our culture--both past and present--may make this an interesting conference for Winebrenner students.
