Twyla J. Stanifer serves as Instructor of Pastoral Counseling at Winebrenner Theological Seminary. She received a master’s of arts degree in clinical counseling from Asbury Theological Seminary of Wilmore, Kentucky in 1995. Twyla is an ordained deacon of the Church of the Nazarene and has served in full-time Christian ministry since 1993. She is also a licensed professional counselor (with an emphasis in marriage and family counseling) at a local Christian counseling organization.
Twyla has a diverse background both inside and outside of the professional ministry arena that has enabled her to connect with a variety of people and their life circumstances. She has a heart for introducing others to the freedom in Christ she found as a young adult. While her education, and professional experiences have contributed to professional growth, Twyla recognizes that the purest form of knowledge and understanding of coming alongside someone came from her own journey of healing. She is passionate about the restoration and enrichment of married couples and young adults, teaching and preaching the Word of God, and equipping Christian leaders to serve others through pastoral care and counseling. She also continues to prepare for a ministry of teaching and preaching by working on two degree completions: an MDiv through Winebrenner and a sex therapy certification through Richmont University of Atlanta, Georgia.
Twyla has been married to her husband Chris since July of 2000 and they spend time hiking, backpacking, snowmobiling, and traveling together. God has given Chris and Twyla a vision and shared passion for a ministry to young adults and married couples incorporating outdoor adventure, relationship development, and spiritual formation. With God’s grace and provision the Stanifers plan to launch their ministry in 2010.
Twyla enjoys traveling, organizing things and quiet retreats. She is both honored and humbled to be a part of the faculty of Winebrenner and looks forward to sharing a part of her journey with those God allows to cross her path.
